Holy Mass will be offered this evening at Saint Mary's Great Eccleston for the repose of the soul of Jan van Alphen, a Dutch 'Tractor Puller' who died so tragically on the 26th August, 2007 whilst taking part in the British Tractor Pulling Championship and European 'Challenge Cup' Finals held at Great Eccleston over August Bank Holiday weekend.
'...A well-known tractor puller in Europe as well as in the United States and the UK, Jan Van Alphen had been involved in tractor pulling since the introduction of the sport to The Netherlands back in 1979. He had an impressive list of both National and European Championship titles. He will be remembered as a pioneer in the sport of tractor pulling and as a man who was always willing to share his knowledge with others in the sport, he will be sadly missed...'
